A couple of days after the storm I checked the cardinal nest. It was empty.
It appeared to be in a very young and supple tree, subject to bending in the high winds we had. On closer inspection, it was actually in a thorn bush. I found the thorns the hard way, pulling them back so I could see. Baldy is a young bird. He has time to try again. Hard to take. I was looking forward to watching the babies from a distance. I've not seen a cardinal nest here until this one. Maybe next time.
